A lot of times when seminar like the Global Internet Summit or something similar comes up, everyone will be asking, should I or shouldn’t I go.
The main question to be asked though, is what are you looking for? If you’re looking for the NEXT quick fix to START making your online income (although you have studied and attended dozens of other stuff), I would 99% dare say, don’t bother.
Why? It’s because there’s ISN’T any magic pill to fix it. Just like anything else, you need time and dedication to succeed in online business.
Someone once asked me a question, “Can you show me how to make online income? I’ve attended XXX’s seminar before”. All I said was this, “As far as I know, XXX is a straight up person. Although I’ve not personally attended that person’s seminar, I know the passion that the person has”.
Then this guy told me, “Yeah some of his ‘classmates’ were already making money using blah blah blah.
Then my reply was, “You already have a proven ‘gameplan’. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?”
That was the last I heard from this guy.
However, seminars like this are not bad altogether if you have the right mindset when attending.
Let’s take a few examples of how you can benefit from seminars like these…
- you could learn presentation techniques. See how they build up their presentation before going for the final kill.
- you could learn how the speaker packages their offer (you can apply this knowledge on both your offline and online businesses)
- you could network (if that’s your intention, then start mingling around and talking to people) Personally I’ve never really went to such seminars for networking purposes because I find that I suck at it.
- you could go there to get ideas and inspiration. Just because you do not learn something which you can implement directly to your business today, doesn’t mean that you didn’t learn anything. It could have provided you with a spark to inspire you for something else. An example would be, about 3-4 years ago, I attended the first WIS in Malaysia. One of the presenters was showing an example of one of his many niches that he was dabbling in. Fast forward 3 years later, one of my blog is in that niche, and it’s a PR5 blog.
And if you ever pay for any of those speaker’s packages, keep in mind also that you’ll not really be presented with the REAL secret more often than not. As always, doesn’t mean you can’t learn anything from them.
My advise is, be very sure of your mindset when you’re going. If you go there for the wrong reasons, you’d have wasted your time, and felt that it was a waste of time and money.
Generally, I do not go for these seminars anyone unless I have specific reasons.
PS: Just because a seminar is free, doesn’t mean it’s really free. You’ll need to spend the time there, and time IS money.
