My Black Hat Days

I recently dug out my old Dell PC, which I haven’t touched for almost 3 years (yeah I know it’s a dinosaur by today’s standards) and intend to clean it up so that I can use it to run some tasks.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the amount of software being installed there when I used to be a heavy black hat SEO marketer, the days when I was ‘underground’ and no one really knew what I was doing.

I had software like Directory Generator, Traffic Equalizer, Niche Portal Builder, Article Miner, WP Burner, Speed Rewrite, SE Clicker, Vodoo Blogger, Blotto, GF Blogger, Drupal Blogger, LJ Creator, B2E Blogger, Stealth Advertiser, Traffic Monkey, Trackback Blogger, Unauto Blogger, RSS2Blog and a couple of others. Those were the days…

Based on rough estimate, I wouldn’t be surprised if all these add up to more than US10,000 in investment. Some of it were duds for me, while some were really useful.

Yes it’s a huge sum back then, but I also made back many times more those amount.

When I invested those sum of monies, I did it with the mindset that these were business investments that might help me in my business. Whether there’s any guaranteed returns, I wouldn’t know. After all, nothing’s guaranteed in business, but I was willing to take some calculated risks.

The lesson is, sometimes we need to learn how to take a leap of faith, and if it turns out for the better, great. If it doesn’t, just forget it and learn from it but never ever let it leave a permanent scar on you that you’re afraid of ever making such decisions again.

As for now, it’s back to setting up my OLD PC again. Time for me to go back to being an ‘Underground’ marketer. That’s where I perform best.

Black hat? I am not sure… It’s hard to say if it’s right or wrong.

But having a leap of faith, I can’t agree more. Some call it failing forward, others call it experimenting. Whatever it is, that’s the only way to succeed.

I agree with Abel.

Being underground, and being blackhat is totally two different matters.

But having a leap of faith is something that i believe in . In fact, i have the word FAITH tattooed on me.

Faith goes a long way !

Youre right on Suthan. Blackhat and underground is 2 separate thing. I’, not planning to go back to blackhat, but underground, yes. Hence I won’t be doing public seminars anymore.
