These 2 words are pretty strong, and it means different things to different people.
I won’t be ranting on about what other people think, rather I’d like to rant about something that relates to me…
As you know, I’ve been teaching people how to blog for money, and those people who are close to me knows that I share a lot of info with them. Even with my students, I share a lot of stuff, which is beyond what we’re teaching.
Now, I’m doing that with the understanding that whoever I share the info with, will not use back the same info to compete against me.
Unfortunately, I got an email today and found out that someone who attended my blogging course will also be conducting her own seminar in blogging.
Hang a sec, blogging is a wide topic, and I’ve no problem with anyone else going into it, not even her. I’m fine with it.
However, if part of the syllabus includes the exact same topic that I’ve been teaching, then it becomes a bit of an issue with me. Get it that the overlapping topic that I mentioned is something pretty unique, on how I conduct my market research. If you’re using the same concept, I don’t think it’s pretty nice (I’m putting it mildly here).
Legally, it’s her freaking right to do that. I can’t stop her.
Ethically, I think that’s pretty low level to conduct oneself in business.
Personally I would never ever do that to a friend. There have been cases where I’m treading on this line, and what I do might actually be seen as competing directly with my friend. I normally take either of one options, walk away from that business, or talk to my friend and get his consent.
There’s something called integrity…
Something I learnt in a seminar a few weeks back, “Games Is A Reflection Of Behaviour”. May I add, so does business. I rest my case.
