Samsung N110 Netbook Review

I just got myself a new netbook, the Samsung N110. This wasn’t in my original plans as I wanted to get the Toshiba NB200. The design of this particular Toshiba model suits me well, solid built, nice keyboard and professional looking.

Unfortunately, the only flaw it had, which was a critical flaw in itself, deterred me from buying it. Apart from the slightly premium price it commands over the other netbook brands, it only comes with a standard 3 cell battery, which means battery life is around 3-4 hours. If I were to buy an additional 6 cell battery, it would easily cost me a few hundred ringgit.

Toshiba, come on….your competitors are coming out with high capacity 6 cell batteries and you’re still stuck on a 3 cell?? Shame on you guys.

Anyway, if I were to write off the Toshiba, I was considering 2 other options, Asus and Samsung. Asus’s design looks much sleeker, the only issue I have was the keyboard. It flexes a bit when I type, which although is a minor issue to some, it’s pretty annoying to me. The Samsung on the other hand feels and type solidly even with my big fudgy fingers. Kudos to Samsung on that.

Here’s the full specs of the Samsung N110.

CPU: 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N280
OS: Windows XP Home
RAM/Expandable to: 1GB/2GB
Hard Drive Size/Speed: 160GB/5,400 rpm
Optical Drive: None
Display/Resolution: 10.2 inches/1024 x 600

The resolution looks much sharper than the Lenovo’s netbook and comparable to Asus’s display.
