I received an email some time back about an attached invoice from WorldPay.
Here’s a screenshot of how it looks:
As you can see, it looks genuine, and there was an attached invoice in .htm format.
I was surprised though. Although I bought something from Amazon a couple of months back, it wasn’t through WorldPay. That got me suspicious. I checked who the sender was:
If you noticed, the ‘from’ email wasn’t from Amazon.
I didn’t bother to download nor check the attachment.
The thing is, a lot of people would have instinctively clicked on the attachment, and that might have activated or run some script to infect their computer. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, be very sure when opening attachments.
Sometimes, I go to the extent of emailing my friend if there was a suspicious attachment from them, just to verify that it’s not sent out without their knowledge. That’s how paranoid I am.
The time spent cleaning an infected computer far outweighs the additional precaution that I’m taking.
