Email Scam Alert - WorldPay

by admin on August 22, 2009

I received an email some time back about an attached invoice from WorldPay.

Here’s a screenshot of how it looks:

As you can see, it looks genuine, and there was an attached invoice in .htm format.

I was surprised though. Although I bought something from Amazon a couple of months back, it wasn’t through WorldPay. That got me suspicious. I checked who the sender was:

If you noticed, the ‘from’ email wasn’t from Amazon.

I didn’t bother to download nor check the attachment.

The thing is, a lot of people would have instinctively clicked on the attachment, and that might have activated or run some script to infect their computer. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, be very sure when opening attachments.

Sometimes, I go to the extent of emailing my friend if there was a suspicious attachment from them, just to verify that it’s not sent out without their knowledge. That’s how paranoid I am.

The time spent cleaning an infected computer far outweighs the additional precaution that I’m taking.
