The 3 Most Popular Blogging Platform

by admin on August 22, 2009

If you’ve been planning to start a blog, you have plenty of options out there in terms of which blogging platform to use. Each of them have their own features.

blogger The 3 Most Popular Blogging Platform

Blogspot

Blogspot, the blogging platform from Google, is one of the most common platform for people who are new and would like to get started. One of its biggest benefit is the fact that the web based blogging account requires minimal technical knowledge to setup and get going.

Unlike some of the other free web based blogging platforms, blogspot allows you to use it for commercial reason, i.e. you can place advertisements on it.

There are also no limitations as to the disk space, bandwidth, etc.

However, one downside to it is that since your blog is hosted on blogspots server, if they ever decide to shut down your blog, they can do so. In fact, it sometimes have accidentally closed some blogs deemed spammy, although it is not. That’s because these automated filtering system are not perfect and sometimes something in your blog might just trigger it.]

Although some might argue that you can have your own domain, and still use blogspot to post publish to your own domain, the fact is, if your account get closed, while you still have your old post there, you won’t be able to continue posting to it anymore unless you create another new account. But then it won’t be integrated to your previous blog posts.

As far as I’m concerned, I would rather have full control over my blog and my business. That’s why I rarely use them.

livejournal The 3 Most Popular Blogging Platform

LiveJournal

Unlike Blogspot, LiveJournal’s free blogging account has quite a bit of limitation. If you want more flexibility, more control and bigger storage, you’ll have to upgrade to the paid premium account.

It’s simple to get started, and it’s being supported by some pretty hard core users. So you’re bound to get plenty of helpful advise.

Wordpress

Wordpress have a free web based blogging service whereby you can create your own blog there. However, you’re not allowed to use that for commercial reasons. If you were to place any ads there, your blog will by shut down.

Alternatively, if you want to install Wordpress on your own domain, you can do so by downloading it here. Another way to install Wordpress is through Fantastico in your cpanel. That’s one of the easiest way to install.

With the self hosted wordpress blog, you have in your hand, a very powerful blogging platform. There are a lot of themes and plugins available which will let you do practically anything you want on your blog!

Personally I use Wordpress. No second doubt about it.

Wordpress Blog vs Blogspot

by admin on August 22, 2009

I’ve often been asked the question many times, why I would recommend a wordpress blog over a blogspot blog. I’ll cover this question once and for all on why I would, hands-down, choose a wordpress blog. When I refer to the wordpress blog, I’m referring to a self hosted blog, not the free one that you can get from wordpress since the free hosted blog can’t be used for commercial reasons (you can’t place ads nor make money from that blog)

Although Wordpress is slightly harder to get started for someone with ZERO knowledge (you’d have to learn how to install and configure your blog), the many configurations only makes it more powerful for SEO purposes as well as being more flexible.

There are a lot of plugins available which would allow you to do lots of fancy stuff which would have not been possible with a blogspot blog.

Besides, wordpress have a lot more template choices than Google’s blogger blogs.

However, these are all secondary compared to the next point that I’m going to raise which will be the single most important factor that you’ll need to consider.

If you have a blog at blogspot, who do you think have legal control and ownership of the blog?

You’re right, Google!

Now, if I’m ever going to build my blogging business, you better bet that I’d want to retain total control and ownership of my own blogs, and the only way to do it isby having the blog on your own domain, and using an independent platform like Wordpress.

Some might argue that you can still use Blogger on your own domain, but the fact is, if they ever disable your account, although your domain is still there, and your previous content is still there, you will NOT be able to continue posting to the blog using the same Blogger account. Even if you were to register a new account, yes you can still publish to the same domain, but the continuity of the previous account won’t be there.

If you think that they will not disable your account, think again. Sometimes for a multitude of reasons, they can, and will, disable your account. When that happens, it’ll be pretty hard to get back your account.

That’s why I will ALWAYS use a Wordpress blog hosted on my OWN domain whenever I start any blog. Call me a control freak but I like to have total control and ownership of my business.
