Immigration Department Malaysia

jabatan-imigresen

I went to the Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen), Wangsa Maju branch, a few days back to accompany my wife who needed to renew her passport. Honestly speaking, I didn’t have high expectation since the Government departments are notoriously famed for bad customer service, lazy and unfriendly personnels (you know the type that don’t give a damn and looked as though they are in mourning).

Even though my friend had earlier told me that it’s different now, I still dare not have too high hopes. Lo and behold, I reached there at around 11am, paid RM10 to have the photo taken and the form filled up for, and took a queue number. In about 20 minutes, the number was called, payment was made, and was told that the passport will be ready latest in an hour’s time.

Not wanting to sit there waiting, I went to the nearby Old Town White Coffee, and went back an hour later to collect the completed passport. Yup, it was that HASSLE FREE!

Not only that, the officer who attended to us was courteous, smiled, and chatted with us too. What a world of difference from my previous experience of getting my passport done.

If anything good that came out of Pak Lah’s premiership, it was his emphasis on improving the Government departments, and I think when he made a personal visit to the Immigration at that time and gave them a dress down, the service has improved tremendously.

Thanks Pak Lah for that!
