Blog Traffic 101

by Elaine on August 27, 2009

1185579 autobahn 1 150x150 Blog Traffic 101Traffic is not usually good especially if you encounter it in the road. However, if you are talking about blog traffic, well that is a very important and somehow overlooked part of blogging. Blog traffic actually talks about the blog’s popularity and statistics which is reflected in different ways. It could pertain to the number of blog visitors, the number of comments, how long do they stay and read your blog, and many others. Regardless of different definitions, blog traffic means one thing: having other people to notice you.

As with the definition, there are a number of ways that a blog could do in order to increase blog traffic. This list entitled 101 Ways to Drive traffic to your blog actually offers a lot of options which you could choose from or implement everything in order to drive traffic in your blog. Personally, I would like to start with the basic ones so here are some of my tips:

Comments, Comments, and Comments
You are not alone in the blogging world and you must make yourself known to other blogs? How do you that? Leaving comments is a big help in promoting your blog and also your reputation as someone who appears to have something interesting to say. One of the things that you need to remember when leaving comments is to respect the author regardless of your comment. It’s fine that you do not agree with the blogger’s ideas but you should at least respect it without making a negative impact. If you do, well news travels fast in blogging and the consequences might be more than what you are expecting.

Networking and Marketing
Driving traffic in your blog is much like promoting and selling a product and in this case, this product is your blog. Networking is pretty much part of the game and the question here is on how you are going to plan your networking plan. Of course, this would include joining forums and network sites that is related to blogging or the topic that you are focusing on in your niche blog. Aside from that, submiting your blog posts to directories and other similar sites is helpful in having an advantage for search engines to pick you up. Be free to use whatever you can to promote your blog and the more you do, the more results you will have.

Quality Blog Posts
Nothing would ever bring back readers of your blog if you do not have a quality blog post. This means that regardless of how well you market your blog in order to have blog traffic, if you do not have an interesting content these readers would not go back at all. Always remember that if you want to attract your readers, give them the reason to be attracted and also the reason to stay and to come back for more.

These are just simple tips coming from one blogger to another. Be sure to be back as there are a lot more to be revealed in the coming blog posts.

Focusing on Niche Blogging

by admin on August 22, 2009

If you are really intent to be on your way in professional blogging then you must be of course, familiar with niche blogging. If you are not yet familiar with Niche Blogging then you still have a long way to go.

big eye 150x150 Focusing on Niche BloggingNiche blogging as the name implies pertains to "specialized" blogging which means that you have a general theme or topic for blogging and this should be the main focal point of every blog post or content that you have. Sounds easy? It’s far complicated than that, believe me.

Some bloggers say that niche blogging is where the money is. I personally agree with this argument because as a professional blogger, you are making your blog as a rich resource source for that specific topic. As compared to a traditional source content, professional blogs which deals with niche blogging presents a more varied way in presenting topics for niche blogging. It also gives room for lively and very informative conversation regarding the topic.

Choosing a topic for niche blogging is very important because just like in a marketing plan, you have to assess on whether or not your niche blogging topic would have a specific target audience. Choosing a specific topic for niche blogging takes time so feel free to research about what kind of topic would be appropriate for a niche blogging style of approach and whether or not that blogging topic is something that you would be comfortable in working with. Another thing that you could do is to make a research on niche blogging topics that are already successful and study the reason why it is successful. This does not imply that you have to copy that specific style but an inspiration or two would be helpful especially when you are starting out.

No one discusses Niche Blogging as Mark Avey from his blog post entitled Pros and Cons of Niche Blogging. As the title implies it discuses the reasons on why and why not to invest in niche blogging. Here are some excerpts:

Pro: A niche site can bring you a lot of dedicated readers. Most of my traffic comes from search engines (around 75%). Most of the remainder are return visitors. I think a near 25% return rate is pretty good.

Cons: There are relatively few affiliate programs available for you to pick from. The low audience status of the blog also filters through to a low audience for things you might want to try and sell through such a program.

This is one of the best blog post discussing niche blogging because it present facts and data in a very truthful environment. It does not imply that if you have niche blogging, it would be a hit in an instant. It takes a lot of effort and hard work to make sure that your venture in niche blogging would pave your way for being a professional blogger. Be sure that before you start on niche blogging you are aware of the risks involved and the possible results. Being aware is the key and from there decide on whether or not to take the next step.
